What are Dedicated Servers?

When we speak of web hosting servers, there are three basic types - shared hosting servers, VPS (virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate lots of clients and therefore the resources per user account are limited, virtual private servers give you more server configuration autonomy, but also affect other virtual private web servers on the hardware node if utilized heedlessly, and dedicated servers offer you the option to do everything you choose without meddling with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are commonly much more expensive than shared servers or virtual hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is pretty simple. If your firm has a high-traffic web page, or just has very explicit server setup requirements, the most logical choice is a dedicated servers. For somebody who is inclined to invest in safety and stability, the higher price is not an issue. You have complete root access and can utilize 100 percent of the web server's system resources without anyone else sharing these resources and messing with your web portals.

Hardware configurations

Most web hosting vendors, incl. us at Sindibad Host, provide different hardware configurations you can pick from in accordance with your requirements. The hardware configurations offer different varieties of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server hard disk sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can choose a Control Panel, which is a convenient software tool if you would like to use the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes only and choose not to resort to a Secure Shell console for all the modifications you will be making. We offer 3 sorts of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated servers through a Secure Shell connection exclusively. That, though, could be awkward, even more so if you want to grant root privileges to somebody else who has less technical experience than yourself. This is why having hosting Control Panel software pre-activated is a good idea. The Hepsia hosting CP software tool that we provide does not offer complete root access and is chiefly appropriate for someone who has numerous online portals that require a lot of system resources, but prefers to manage the sites, databases and electronic mails using a user-friendly hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you full root privileges and include three levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell web hosting plans rather than using the dedicated servers just for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your web hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a downtime, it is desirable to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at Sindibad Host the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also an extra feature - the web hosting company offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could pick a kind of RAID that would allow you to save the same data on 2 server hard disk drives as a protective measure in case of a hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given full root-level access deletes something by accident.
